The Catcher in the Rye

Semester 1 of Year 12 is officially over guys! I'm overjoyed ahahahahaha. I'm supposed to be preparing myself this holiday for Ujian Nasional and SBMPTN since it's only 4 and... 7 months away, respectively?

Anyway I decided to read The Catcher in the Rye a few days ago and I just finished the book a few minutes ago. I loved it! It really was a great book. Even though Holden Caulfield seemed to be a little bit of a rebellion and all that jazz, I did wish he was my older brother. Lol.

I just learned that this book was published on July 16, 1951 which was exactly 45 years before I was born. Oh how exciting! I loved how this book expressed teenage angst. I knew that this book was banned in certain countries and I did think it may be because of the explicit language used. Since the book started, it already included a lot of swearing such as "Sonuvabitch" and friends.

To me personally, it was fine. I wasn't really the kind of person who'd change easily after reading a certain book however giving age limit for readers would be nice. At least 15 and over perhaps.

Holden here was a clueless 16 year old boy. He seemed to unable to enjoy anything and rather pessimistic to me but I did think it was all because he didn't know who he really was. He kept changing his mind and was still looking for his identity.

Well overall I did think it's a great book. So much love for J.D. Salinger!

2013 Playlist Part 2

I'm very much in the mood for writing so probably there will be a lot of posts coming here. I decide to continue my previous post about my favourite songs of 2013. Okay so without any more words let's get to it!

Chocolate - The 1975

I don't think I should write any long description about my love for this song anymore since I've done that a few post ago. Yes yes? Maybe I should say one more thing, again. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

Let's Get Ridiculous - Redfoo

I'm not ashamed! No I'm not! Redfoo, as always, succeed in making me move my hips. The song is pretty much like most LMFAO's song however minus SkyBlu. Even in the music video they still have their iconic shuffle dance and the guy with the box head thing. Despite that, I still love this song. I'm more of a music listener who'd like to be swayed by the song and guess what Redfoo, you nailed it!

Fly High - Infinite H

Alright, alright. I know it's a Korean pop song but this song really is good! To be honest, it's not like any other most Korean pop song. Fly High has a bit of a hip-hop/R & B touch that wraps the song as perfection. This song is also featured by a female Korean singer, Baby Soul. I'm not a fan of Infinite or Infinite H and I most certainly don't speak Korean but seriously, check this song out. It's massively good. I don't even expect myself to like this song this much. Thanks Shiba for giving me this song!

Ringa Linga - Taeyang

Alright, I know it's yet a Korean song. Again. BUT RINGA LINGA IS SUCH A CATCHY SONG YOU CAN ASK ALL THE BOYS IN MY CLASS. Taeyang nailed it! Ringa Linga is very groovy in a hip-hop way and I love every second of this song. Ringa Linga makes me wish I could dance but even though most people can't dance that great like Taeyang can, this song still successfully arise the inner dancer in everyone's soul. The song is very similar to any other BigBang's upbeat songs but I'm not complaining. At all.

Anyway it's getting really late here in Indonesia and I have go to school tomorrow (not to study though) but still, I have to wake up early. I'll post the part 3 if there are any other songs that I miss out.

Person of Interest

None of my family except my dad knows about the existence of this blog. Well my mom knows about it but she doesn't see it so technically she doesn't really know about it.

In just 2 days my brother will be coming home from Bandung! As we all know 2013 is coming to an end thus I believe his university gives a holiday break. I'm not sure how long he will be staying but I'm just glad he'll be home. In fact, I can hardly wait to meet him.

My family are my persons of interest. Person of Interest is actually a TV show starring Jim Cavieziel. Oh how my mom adores him. Anyway what I'm trying to say is that this particular post is dedicated to my family. I'm not quite outspoken on saying "I love you guys" to my family but believe me, I do. Besides writing and reading and fangirling, they're the ones that keep me sane.

Before anybody gets the wrong idea I just want to say I love both my mom and my dad. My mom is my true best friend and I'm okay with the idea of not having any friends if I know I'll have her. As to my dad, I may never be a daddy's little girl and we may not share any intimate or close father-daughter relationship but I do love him just as much as he loves me. He may not say it often but I know his love for me do exists.

Even though I say that this post is for my family, I would like to say that this post is specifically for my brother and I do it just because I can. And it's not his birthday.

Now, I'm not going to say that my brother and I are BFFFFFFFs but I do think we have our moments. One time we got our own signature. I'm not sure how to describe this but that time we're both like "BREATH TAKING! HAH HAH HAH! HEART BREAKING! HAH HAH HAH! JAW BREAKING! AAAAA". You probably don't even know what I'm talking but it's okay.

But I do think my brother is a good guy and I'm sure he'll be a true gentleman sometime in the future. I do see the potential. Oh have I told you that he's a hopeless romantic? Well, HE'S A ROMEO, SHAKESPEARE, NICHOLAS SPARKS, WHATEVER. He's more like my mom; sensitive, touchy, and romantic. While I'm more like my dad; not romantic. I think I still get my mom's sensitivity and... touchy-ness? Is that even a word in English I hope Oxford won't sue me.

He watches (500) Days of Summer, The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love, and countless other romantic movies. He watches all of those Korean and Thai movies too. He once told me, "Koreans are good in making sad movies."

But most of all, he watches movies. Oh yeah, he loves them. He runs a movie review website in which I'm actually also a contributor for that website but I hardly write anything these days due to the insanity level of my school. And instead of writing anything there, I'm here writing a story of my brother. No big deal.

My girlfriends say I'm lucky to have an older brother. Oh yes, he's older than me. For 3 years. 3 years and 4 months to be specific. Most of my girlfriends don't have older siblings and most girls have this perception that older brothers are cool and all that jazz and they will protect you from all the bad boys and germs. Well let's face it. My brother is none of that.

Well sure he's cool and he has a lot of friends and was in a band and all but he's not protective. I'm not complaining though. I do feel like there are so many girls these days demanding perfect boys and or well, prince charming. My mother never raised me with fairytales so no offence but I don't believe in fairytales. I don't believe in perfect boys and I don't want one. If any of you guys reading this get offended, you shouldn't be. Because none of you are perfect and so am I.

Anyway even though my brother is cheesy and not like any other older brothers, I love him just the way he is. I really do. And if any of you are wondering why in the world I'm writing a post about him, I only have the simplest reason. I miss him a lot. I never say that out loud to him because he'll feel awkward and so I'll be. Hopefully one day later he'll find this post in a way and know that I really do love him.

Zayn Malik, Mesut Özil, Joe Priest, and Chord Overstreet have little sisters and they're all lovely brothers and I do have to say, damn they're lucky girls! But I'll consider myself lucky too. Why? Well, why not? Ahahahahaha.

Us many many many years ago before I even speak English.

P.S.

Dear Jani's future wife,

Whoever you are, I'll be very happy to have you as my sister-in-law and I'm sure my brother will be just as happy to have you. You yourself will be just as lucky, you have a great man beside you.

The 1975

Let's take a look at 38 years back. 1975. It was the 1975th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini, the 975th of the 2nd millennium, the 75th year of the 20th century, and the 6th year of of the 1970s decade. (Thanks Wikipedia!)

1975 also marked itself as one of the most highlighted year on the calendar. It was the year Volkswagen introduced Golf, heiress Lesley Whittle was kidnapped by Donald Neilson, the launching of International Women's Year, the disappearance of an Australian journalist and heiress Juanita Nielsen, Aston Villa won Football League Cup against Norwich City by 1-0 at Wembley, Charlie Chaplin was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, and more amazing stores have been written on The 1975's page. (Thanks again wikipedia!)

But did you guys know about this 1975?

The 1975!
Whether you guys know this 1975 or not, I'd tell you anyways. The 1975 is an English band, originally from Manchester or Cheshire if I wasn't mistaken, consisted of 4 members: Matt Healy as the vocalist, Adam Hann as the guitarist, Ross Macdonald as the bassist, and George Daniel as the drummer.

This band drove me crazy. I never knew I would fall in love with a band with such genre that The 1975 had. I considered this band as an indie band I myself didn't quite listen to indie bands but this band definitely caught my attention. The 1975 was formed in 2002 and I was more than happy to be able to enjoy their music even though it took me around 11 years later to know them. They released their self-titled debut album this year, The 1975, and it was marvellous!

The 1975's self-titled album
As per usual, I knew about this band from Channel V. I was just switching from one channel to another until I caught their music video, Chocolate. I didn't know anything about this band but I did know I fell in love with that song from the first time I heard it. It was like love at first beat.

One of their singles, Chocolate, was included in their previous EP titled Music for Cars. Just like the EP title, Chocolate was the perfect kind of song you'd listen in your cars. Even my mom loved this song! I could imagine myself listening to this song while driving around the city past midnight, where most stores were closed except the 24/7 stores and I could see all the night lights shimmering so wonderfully. I imagined this happening to me somewhere in Brooklyn or London. Possibly after it rained somewhere over there. Hopefully it'd come true! Amen.

The 1975's Music for Cars EP
I seriously couldn't describe how amazing Chocolate is as a song since everyone had their own interpretation, however this is a kind of song that gave me hope and happiness. It gave me the hope that one day I'd be able to experience the situation I've been imagining in my mind and one day later, I'd be able to go to Brooklyn and London. Weird I know.

My brother, however, didn't like Chocolate or maybe even The 1975. He thought Chocolate was very much like any of Fall Out Boy's songs. He said the arrangement of the guitar was very Fall Out Boy. But his opinion was pretty funny to me since NME comment on Chocolate was pretty much the same thing like my brother's. NME said,

"Where have Fall Out Boy been during their three-year hiatus? Because it sounds like they’ve been passing tips to Manchester four-piece The 1975. Despite its gangster storyline this is like the Illinois emos on a Thomas Cook package holiday, all glossy production and cheery tropical guitar licks. Avoid."

Ahahahahaha. Anyway another song off this record that I'd recommend for you to listen is Girls. Raina Hein was on this music video I can't even!!!! Even though Matt Healy said "It's very pop!" with hatred on the start of Girl's music video, Girls did sound very pop. However I liked pop so I most definitely liked Girls.

I'd also recommend Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You, Sex, and The City. Seriously, spare a few of your minutes to listen to these songs just because they are all simply amazing.

I rated The 1975's self-titled album 4.5 out of 5 stars.

2013 Playlist Part 1

Countless artists have been releasing their new songs this year including Beyonce WHO DIDN'T TELL ANYONE OR MAKE ANY PROMOTIONS FOR HER NEW ALBUM JUST BECAUSE SHE CAN.

Anyway numerous amazing songs have been released in 2013 and some of them are by my favourite artists. I'm not gonna spend more time writing intro or some shit so imma just tell you the songs that caught my ears so far in this year, 2013.

Do or Die - Thirty Seconds to Mars

I have been a fan of 30 Seconds to Mars since I could ever remember. How they are able to create such rhythms combining it with perfect lyrics and bringing all those positive vibes on each of their song in their albums is just indescribable. Do or Die is one of 30STM's songs that is so amazing I got chills when I listen to it. Do or Die makes you want to believe. To be honest I'm not even sure to believe in what, but I know it's to believe towards something positive.

Wake Me Up & You Make Me - Avicii

This swedish DJ is a complete charmer both as a person and as a musician. I start listening to his music when I heard X You on Channel V and I have loved him ever since. His latest album, True, that  led him as a winner of American Music Award is simply amazing! I love how he takes the world of DJ to a brand new level, a kind of level that it's more than just music that you'd listen at clubs or pubs, but at an actual concert or just simply as your life's soundtrack. Wake Me Up and You Make Me are no doubt amazing singles and I wish to hear more of his creations. Jag älskar honom!

My Song Knows What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up) & Just One Yesterday

Words cannot explain how ecstatic I am to know that one of my favourites bands, whom I grew up with, reunited from their hiatus. Fall Out Boy definitely take their music to a different genre but I'm okay with it. They're going great and seriously who am I talking about? It's FOB. I couldn't stop listening to their songs and I love how they decide to collaborate with Foxes on this album. And I also love the intro on Light Em Up. I don't know why, I just do. Thumbs up!

COUP D'ETAT - G-Dragon

I'd like to consider myself not a Korean pop fan until... last year? BigBang is the first Kpop group that caught my attention since the first time I saw Fantastic Baby's music video at Manda's house. One of their members, G-Dragon, released this album and he surely created a coup d'etat. The music in this album is so dynamic and fun. I even mention the album instead of the songs that I love since I LOVE ALL OF THE SONGS IN THIS ALBUM. However I do have my favourites such as Crooked and Shake The World. You don't have to necessarily speak Korean to know that Crooked is actually a pretty sad song even though the rhythm and melody aren't mellow or whatever. Anyway, I do recommend you to listen to this album.

P.S. He got Missy Elliott in this album!

These are all for now. I'll come back with more songs of my 2013 playlist! :D

Semester 1 Has (Not) End!

I've written a pretty long post before about the exact same thing but thanks to my shitty internet I lost all of it. Thanks smartfren!

First of all, hello again! Secondly, I was telling you about the final examinations that my school had. Well as I've mentioned before my school had final examinations and we're done! Technically... Unfortunately, I have some retests to do.

You see I failed on 3 subjects: Physics, Biology, and Bahasa Indonesia. Don't think that it's ironic for me as an Indonesian to not to pass the exam since one, I'm half-Asgardian thus I don't speak fluent Bahasa Indonesia and secondly, no one passed the Bahasa Indonesia exam. Lol. The highest score was achieved by Rabin with score 76 while the standard score set by our school was 77. I can't even.

Furthermore, I got 60 for my Physics exam and 64 for my Biology exam while the standard scores were 75 and 77, respectively. Those aren't great scores believe me however only 8 people passed Physics exam and 6 people passed Biology exam, thus mine didn't seem so hideous even though they still sort of are.

All of these meant I have to go to school on Monday to fix all of my scores! I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that since I'm craving for holidays but ah well. I was also sort of disappointed of my Biology score since I really felt like I excelled it! I wasn't expecting myself to get 100 but definitely not 64??? I mean seriously how could it be????? AAAAH!

I am dead tired like seriously.

Ma terrible face guys!!!
Okay I felt like all I wrote here most of them were school related therefore I'm gonna write something less school related.

See ya!

Pssst... I'm accepted at another university but I'm keeping it a secret for a while!

December

Well it has been quite a while don't you think? School's keeping me busy and now my school is currently having our final examinations. U g h so done. Like seriously 99% of my friends in my year are like so done with exams. Even some of the boys would just go with their so called tiger instincts when it comes to choosing their answers on multiple choices.

I'm supposed to be studying for my Mathematics and German exams tomorrow but I decide to spare some time to write something here since writing, in a way, keeps me sane.

Anyway I'm not sure if I've told you this but as one of the requirements to graduate from my high school, I have to work on a research paper. I decided to go with a research about finding out the effects of MSG to chilli plants. Imma show you a couple of my chilli plants pictures!

Some of my chilli plants!
Capsicum annuum, as they say, in latin.
We were supposed to present our paper in a form of a presentation where we will have to explain about our research in front of 2 judges/teachers however my school's coordinators decided to change that system. Therefore instead of presenting it on a presentation, we presented it on a form of a poster where we have to explain our research to one mysterious teacher. Lol mysterious.

My research paper's poster!
Back to examinations, since it's all about final examinations (sort of), ME NEED TO STUDY EVERYDAY SO DEPRESSING YA!!!! I mean look at THIS CHAOS

I decided to watch The 1975's Chocolate music video instead.
On the other hand I have a great news to share! I got accepted at UPH! :D YEY! I got accepted at their Psychology major. I didn't really have a lot of interest on Psychology but when I applied, I thought I had to put on my major choices based on their majors' ranks. I actually wanted to go to their Communications major so I might change my major before December 23rd. Yeah.

Oh and CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT IT'S ONLY A FEW WEEKS AWAY FROM 2014????? IT HAS BEEN A YEAR GOSH I CANNOT. 2014 would be a year of sacrifice so I hope I can achieve whatever I want and need to achieve in 2014.

Ah well, it's time for me to get back to my study :( See ya soon guys and thanks for sticking around! :D

P.S. I miss Maisha and Vanka so much! Have fun in USA and Italy, girls! Don't forget to wear your coats! Well obviously duh it's minus something degrees there how could they ever forget about their coats.

And somehow I don't have a picture of Maisha and I only so yeah. Maisha's the
third girl from the right on the back row. Vanka's here too!

November

I think my last post was on October so wow it's November already, huh? I didn't go to school earlier today because I was not feeling well and the fact that I was supposed to have my IGCSE Physics's Analytical to Practical test today.... I'm screwed. Sort of.

I'm not quite sure why but these days I'm just not in the zone for anything. All I want to do is either sleep or... do nothing. When one is being a 12th grade student one is supposed to be more diligent than ever but instead I'm lazier than ever. However it seems like I'm not the only one in my year.

I'm also planning to take an English Proficiency Test. Either TOEFL IBT or IELTS since they're acknowledge worldwide however... THEY ARE SO BLOODY EXPENSIVE! (british accent mode on).

Anyway I spent the day reading Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I've seen the movie before (directed by the writer himself) since my brother was practically forcing and nagging me to watch it. I like the movie and I decide to read the book as well so I am currently at page 70.

Thus far I have a great time reading this book and thus far, I can't keep my eyes out of its pages. So bloody interesting I can't even. Chbosky's definitely a fine lad and writer.

Sorry for my terrible face.
More on the go, I just finished reading John Green's Looking for Alaska and hours ago I come to a realisation, 'Mother of Lord I've read all 4 of John Green's books'. I shall say it's probably John Green's second or third best book. All I know is The Fault in Our Stars is definitely my least favourite. No offence for those who actually like it.

Also, as a 12th grade student we all shall be diligent and all since we have to prepare ourselves from bunch of grenades that will be thrown soon enough by the teachers, governments, and universities therefore please pray for me that I'll actually make it and pass high school with the scores I want.

See ya all next time!!!

The 2 Billion Rupiah Dream

High school is about to end and I can't be any happier. Well, hopefully, I will be graduating from high school next year which is in 2014. Everyone, like literally everyone, asks me where do I want to continue my study a.k.a "Where do you wanna go for college?"

And that's when the 2 billion rupiah question comes and that's when the roller coaster of feelings come.

I have a very deep interest in English especially Creative Writing. I'm not trying to brag about anything but I do think that I deserve to be confident in at least one thing and that is I'm pretty confident in my writing skills.

When people ask me what do I want to study, it's simple. I want to study English Literature. However, I have a very personal interest in Creative Writing. No universities in Indonesia provide a specific course or major on Creative Writing and I know this one amazing university who has that.

University of Birmingham

I use all bold, italic, and underline in purpose to emphasise my feelings for this university. I mean I can't I need a moment.

Okay I'm back. To be honest, my way in finding out about this university is through Gita Gutawa. Yes, her. The daughter of Erwin Gutawa who both happen to be great musicians of Indonesia. They're two of our nation's prides.

I find out that University of Birmingham provides English with Creative Writing a.k.a MY DREAM COURSE! I have searched all of the informations I can get especially the budget and just like the title of this post, it costs roughly 2 billion rupiah. Roughly.

Well yeah let's be honest I don't have that much of money. My mother totally supports my dream in aiming high and all but she doesn't have that much of money as well. And this is the part where the roller coaster of feelings happen. Heart broken and desperate.

Maybe all of you who happen to pass by this blog and read this post may say, "Get a scholarship!" Let me tell you something. It is not that easy since in order to enrol here, Indonesian students must take a foundation year since the education system in UK and Indonesia aren't balance. Just like a chemistry equation. Well, most of them if you haven't balance them.

And talking about the foundation year, they don't provide scholarships. They provide bursaries which means fee reduction, however not scholarships. This saddens me a lot since I feel like I don't have any hope in order to achieve this dream.

Studying the course that's not available in Indonesia is not the only reason why I wanna study here. I love UK and being able to live there means I can get new opportunities and experiences that I might not be able to get in my country. Whatever the opportunities or experiences are, they're still something new.

But still. The 2 billion rupiah thing.

I wish one day God decides to let money fall from the sky, like rain but not in the form of water but money, then I can take as much as I need to get there. I feel like in the end of the day, the wealthy people are the ones who can get the best education while the not-so-wealthy ones are, well.

I'm so sorry if I seem judgmental, ungrateful, and pessimistic but I just feel like getting this off my chest. I have a Physics Test Formative and a Chemistry retest tomorrow but I decide to write this particular post first. I just need to get it off somehow.

To be honest, I envy all the kids who are lucky enough to be able to afford education this expensive. I know envy is one of the seven deadly sins but I'm just an ordinary human.

Places In Movies I'd Die For Part 2

It's 2.51 in the morning when I start writing this and now I finally get some time to write the part 2 so here it goes! This may be a marvellously long post so prepare for some magic and by magic I do mean nothing.

Hello Stranger is a Thai movie played by Chantavit Dhanasevi and Neungthida Sophon. Believe me, I don't know and can't write their names properly without the power of wikipedia. Even previously I get mixed up between the names of the actor, Chantavit and the director and producer of the movie, Banjong Pisanthanakun.

This movie started with a few scenes in Bangkok, Thailand which later move to Seoul, South Korea. Now I'm going to be a big liar if I say Korea doesn't affect my country because they do. A lot. In fact just a few hours ago, SNSD or known as Girls Generation just had a show in my country, specifically in Ancol. Some of my friends attended the concert though.

What I love about this movie is that, of course the plot, and the setting! I'm not the biggest fan of k-pop or whatever but I do love South Korea! They have amazing places and it's so cool to believe that they are now a developed country! It feels like just a few years ago they were like Singapore but look where they are now!

I love how Hello Stranger take the most famous places in Seoul like Namsan Tower (The Locks of Love), Nami Island (the setting for one of South Korea's famous TV show called Winter Sonata), Han River (if I'm not mistaken), Seoul's city centre, the shopping places, and more! I'd do a lot of things for this! The movie itself is really good that my hopeless romantic brother loves it and I myself recommend you to watch it.

I made this myself aren't they great lol

Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging is a British movie and if I say I don't like British or England or UK then I'm lying because I LOVE UK SO BLOODY MUCH!

I'm dying to go to England and living in London, Manchester, or Birmingham is like one of the biggest dreams that I have and hopefully I can make this one comes true. Amen! Can I get an amen? Please?

The movie was taken in 2008 and it took places in Brighton and Eastbourne, according to wikipedia, and I JUST WANT TO CRY HARD BECAUSE I LOVE ENGLAND SO MUCH AND I WANT TO GO THERE! Even though Brighton and Eastbourne were not on top of my travelling list, I still am dying to go there!

I mean look at this! Brighton!

And Eastbourne!

But Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging is actually a pretty good movie and even though it's sort of a teenage movie, it's not one of those annoying movies. It does have annoying mean girls characters of course however the ending doesn't seem realistic in real life because if it does then some guy like Robbie is such a nice person then.

Robbie a.k.a Aaron Johnson hehehehe so hot in this movie!
Sex and the City. No one can lie about this. Everybody loves New York City. Well maybe everyone but I know I do. Going to New York City is probably one of my million dreams since I was 6 when Sex and the City was still on HBO TV series. My mother loves the TV show and I often slept with my mom (well still do though) and at 10 P.M. she'd be watching this with me curling up to her side.

Seriously, I'm just gonna go short about this. NYC yes.

Oh gosh.

Habibie dan Ainun is an Indonesian movie about one of Indonesian's sweetest, loving husband, genius man, B.J. Habibie and his wife, Ainun Habibie. Some of the scenes take place in Indonesia and some of them take place in Germany since Habibie lives there. I've been learning German since 7th grade and I'd love to go there not just to practice my German but also BECAUSE I SIMPLY LOVE GERMANY.

A friend of mine, Irfan Salmons, is currently living in Hamburg, Germany since he got that AFS thing. I applied for AFS as well however I didn't pass the very first selection lol. Maybe it's because of the essay I wrote :D lol.

At the moment these places are all that I had in my mind even though I know I got tons of them! However I do have some honourable mentions.

Planet Asgard. Oh how I'm very much dying to go to another planet and meet Thor and Loki and their mommy and daddy.

One Directions' Tour Bus Bunks. I am literally not going to say anything about this one.

Hehehehehe.
